01Why it matters

Kurds often disappear into the figures for Türkiye, Iraq, Iran or Syria. A community the statistics cannot see is easy to overlook when schools and services are planned.

  • Most European statistics count Kurds only as nationals of Türkiye, Iraq, Iran or Syria. A few countries let people record ethnicity, ancestry or language.

02What we ask

  1. 1

Read the observatory note for your country.

  2. 2

If a census asks about ancestry, ethnicity or language, the answer is yours alone. The network never tells anyone what to answer.

  3. 3

Tell us how your country’s census asks these questions, so the note stays correct.
